We are located in central Michigan between the communities of St. Johns and Owosso (and includes the Village of Ovid) in the northeast part of Clinton County bordered on the north by Kinley Road in Duplain Township; on the west by Chandler Road in Bingham Township; to the south by Centerline Road in Victor Township, and to the east, Meridian Road in Middlebury Township, Shiawassee County.  It was organized by the legislature March 19, 1840.  Its name was suggested by William Swarthout, who came to Michigan from the town of Ovid in the state of New York.

We are basically a rural township comprised of farmland and the Village of Ovid. Major crops include corn, soybeans, and wheat.  The two largest businesses in the area include a local plant for The Michigan Milk Producers Association     (Click here)  which is based in Novi and the largest dairy cooperative in Michigan; and Tom’s Western Store (Click here), a family-owned and operated business for 48 years.  School districts include the Ovid-Elsie school district  (Click here) as well as a small portion within the St. Johns Public Schools district (Click here).  For more historical information, click here

The township administrative offices are located near the geographic center of the township. The 2007 structure hosts elections and monthly board meetings, and houses the offices of the Supervisor, Treasurer and Clerk.  The Assessor also maintains a small area within the building.  The meeting room, along with the kitchen, is available for rent.
